The magnetic John David Washington has recently been confirmed to join heavyweight talents Christian Bale and Margot Robbie for an untitled – not to mention largely undisclosed, hence “mystery” – film directed by David O Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter, American Hustle).

Washington’s mysterious role was originally attached to Michael B. Jordan earlier this year, but that obviously is no longer the case given the Tenet star’s arrival.

In terms of other names on board for the upcoming project, the legendary Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki will serve as cinematographer – who you may be familiar with through Children of Men, Gravity, Birdman, and The Revenant.

Russell will be working with a screenplay he himself has written, reuniting with not just Bale – who starred in both The Fighter and American Hustle – but also executive producer Matthew Budman (American Hustle, Joy).

While not a great deal is currently known about what’s to come – not title, logline, or plot details – a collaboration between Russell and actors of this magnitude certainly hints at immense potential… especially in the case of Bale. Across The Fighter and American Hustle, both films were nominated for the following awards:

The Fighter (2011)
Academy Awards – Best Director
Directors Guild of America Award – Outstanding Directing (Feature Film)
Golden Globe Awards – Best Director

American Hustle (2014)
Academy Awards – Best Director
Academy Awards – Best Original Screenplay
BAFTA Awards – Best Original Screenplay (Won)
BAFTA Awards – Best Direction
Directors Guild of America Award – Outstanding Directing (Feature Film)
Golden Globe Awards – Best Director
Golden Globe Awards – Best Screenplay

The untitled David O Russell film is scheduled to begin shooting in Los Angeles starting January of 2021 and will be distributed by New Regency. Updates to come.
