The new Oppenheimer trailer has arrived to serve as a not-so-gentle reminder that we’re only a few short months away from what is potentially the blockbuster event of 2023.

If the prospect of experiencing an atomic bomb being recreated with practical effects in yet another heart-pounding World War II drama directed by the singular Christopher Nolan wasn’t enough to get your freak juices flowing, perhaps a punchy showcase of the production’s star-studded cast will. A cast, it’s worth noting, which is solely rivalled by Greta Gerwig’s Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Acting talent galore.

From Cillian Murphy himself as the titular Father of the Atomic Bomb to Scottish screen legend Tom Conti as Albert freakin’ Einstein, the pages of history have been brought to life by a certifiable who’s who of celebrated Hollywood names.

Murphy and Conti are joined onscreen by an all-star lineup featuring Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr as businessman/naval officer Lewis Strauss, Matt Damon as Lieutenant General and Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves, Florence Pugh as psychiatrist/physician Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie as physicist Edward Teller, and Josh Hartnett as nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.

Rami Malek, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, Jason Clarke, plus David Krumholtz are also set to make an appearance. Like we’ve said before, this cast is stacked.

According to Puck News, the forthcoming war epic based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin currently has a duration of approximately three hours, making it the lengthiest Nolan film to date. So hydrate within reason and plan those bathroom breaks strategically.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy et al is scheduled for release on July 21st of 2023 – the annual slot typically saved for Nolan’s flicks; roughly two weeks before the anniversary of Hiroshima – check out the new trailer above.
