- Apple TV+’s Stick starring and produced by Owen Wilson is golf’s answer to Ted Lasso.

- Release date: June 4th, 2025 (via Apple TV+).
In the same way that his Midnight In Paris co-star Rachel McAdams has somehow been typecast as the spouse of time-travelling men, between Cars and now Apple TV+’s Stick, Owen Wilson has found his groove as the serial sports mentor.
The latter, which is being hailed as a heartfelt Ted Lasso-esque sports comedy (and from the home of Ted Lasso, no less), follows Wilson’s Pryce Cahill – an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was “derailed prematurely 20 years ago.”

As these kinds of stories generally go, following both the collapse of his marriage and the loss of his humdrum job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets (and future) on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager).
Feel-good, found family, and fun… it’s everything you want in easy weekday viewing while we patiently await Ted Lasso season 4. And has every opportunity to become something of its own beyond the convenient comparisons.

Wilson and Dager are joined by an ensemble cast the features veteran comedian Marc Maron (of both podcast and stand-up fame), Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer, and the perennially handsome Timothy Olyphant.
The series has also enlisted a who’s who of golfing guest appearances, ranging from the likes of Collin Morikawa and Keegan Bradley, to Max Homa and Wyndham Clark; additional cameos include broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman, Good Good’s Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke, and Garrett Clark, plus noted golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport.Â

Stick has been created by playwright and screenwriter Jason Keller, who you may be most familiar with as the co-writer of James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari; and is also the father of former major league pitcher Ron Heller. Meaning there’s an element of real-life inspiration behind the whole guiding a young athlete concept.
Stick premieres the first three episodes of its debut 10-instalment run on June 4th, 2025, followed by a new one every Wednesday thereafter. All via Apple TV+. Check out the first trailer above.
