Where many have dedicated their time into making tech more compact, others have opted to go big thereby avoiding the proverbial home. Such is the case of Magico and its M9 loudspeaker, a towering monolith of audio kit with the price tag to match.

Standing at 6.5 feet in height (198 cm), weighing 1,000 pounds (454 kg), and retailing for US$750,000 – you will have surely never seen a more intimidating home-entertainment offering. Though the Magico M9 isn’t just large and expensive for the sake of being large and expensive. Beyond the novelty and headline hook, it actually delivers some top-notch audio quality when given the chance.

As it so happens, the M9 possesses the world’s first loudspeaker enclosure to utilise both exterior and interior layers of carbon fibre. This, in turn, minimises vibration for a purer sound. Other notable features which contribute to both the reportedly stellar audio quality and exorbitant price include:

  • 1 x 1.1-inch diamond-coated Beryllium tweeter
  • 1 x 6-inch Nano-Tec cone with a “revolutionary aluminium honeycomb core” midrange driver
  • 2 x 11-inch mid-woofers
  • 2 x 15-inch woofers in each separate towers

“The result is a revelation, a loudspeaker that can present intense crescendos with unconstrained power, yet reproduce the most delicate musical passages with transparency and stunning microdynamic detail.”
