Overnight, Penfolds dropped a three wine collaboration with Champagne House Thiénot, a release they teased briefly in 2018.
Penfold’s Chief winemaker Peter Gago worked with Thiénot chef de cave Nicolas Uriel to create three Champagne Thiénot x Penfolds expressions from what is slated to be a spectacular vintage, 2012, consisting of a Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée, and two single vineyard wines, a Blanc de Blancs from Avize Grand Cru, and a Blanc de Noirs from Aÿ Grand Cru. The grapes were sourced from highly regarded vineyards and housed in Yattarna barriques from Australia to add “greater symbolism and connection”.

Thiénot managing director Stanislas Thiénot said the Champagne Thiénot x Penfolds project had been a truly collaborative experience and that the modern, fresh wines reflected the house styles and philosophies of both wine companies.
The first of the Champagne releases, 2012 Champagne Thiénot x Penfolds Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée will be available from June 2019 with an AU$280.00 RRP for the 750ml bottle with a limited number of 1.5L and 3L bottles.
