“Cafe quality coffee at home” is the promise just about every coffee machine makes. Whether it’s a budget pod machine or a fully automatic beast. The newly launched Linea Micra has the chops to make such a claim, however, given that it’s coming from La Marzocco, the Italian company that pretty much wrote the rule book when it comes to high-end coffee machines.

As La Marzocco’s first coffee machine purely designed for home use, sitting at the lower end of the price scale of the company’s Home collection, the Linea Micra has arrived as a smaller, lighter answer to the prosumer Linea Mini with a 1.6-litre water reservoir and a 1.6-litre steam boiler.

The compact dual-boiler espresso machine was constructed specifically to heat up and achieve a stable brewing temperature in about five minutes, further packing up La Marzocco’s DNA made famous by the Linea Classic and making it more accessible for a wider range of coffee drinkers.

With each machine being handmade in Florence and tested by the local La Marzocco team, it seems the Linea Micra and its blocky retro aesthetic will make a sizable impact on the Australian market, Where the home domain is typically dominated by brands like DeLonghi, Nespresso and Breville.

While it certainly reaches into the higher price brackets with a tag of $6,000, the La Marzocco Linea Micra should be a top pick as we roll into 2023. In addition to the much smaller footprint, the coffee machine features a convertible portafilter designed to improve temperature consistency, dual boilers for efficiency, an easy-to-clean hot water spout and a “cool touch” steam wand that reflects the aesthetic of those on the commercial machines with stainless steel double wall to ensure safety at all times.

Such a headstrong brand tied to exacting Italian coffee-making standards need not really reach into technology to sell a coffee machine. Yet the Linea Micrea focuses on convenience too, with smart capabilities so you can do direct things via the La Marzocco Home app.
