Let’s not faff about with any of the usual cheeky banter and get right down to the pressing issue at hand. Research published by renowned environmental and reproductive epidemiologist – Dr Shanna Swan – has indicated pollution may be the cause behind the rising trend of small / smaller penises, decreased libido, and decreased fertility.

In her new book lengthily titled Count Down: How Our Modern World Is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male & Female Reproductive Development, And Imperiling The Future Of The Human Race, Dr Swan laid the blame upon industrial chemicals present in everyday products. More specifically, plastics.

The phenomenon was first observed in rat foetuses exposed to just one of several culprits, phthalates – a common industrial chemical added when manufacturing plastics to increase flexibility, durability, longevity, and transparency; often transmitted by toys, cushions, food, and breast milk. The majority of test subjects were more likely to be born with a shrunken or deformed package.

The very same phenomenon was observed in human babies exposed to phthalates in the womb, presenting concerning similarities in regards to abnormal physical development. Infants who had experienced higher exposure were found to have a shorter anogenital distance, which often correlates with less penile volume. But as dire as pollution causing small penises may be to the global collective’s dating lives, there’s something even greater at stake here.

“Chemicals in our environment and unhealthy lifestyle practices in our modern world are disrupting our hormonal balance, causing various degrees of reproductive havoc,” Dr Swan writes in the book.

“In some parts of the world, the average twentysomething woman today is less fertile than her grandmother was at 35.”

“We found a relationship between women’s phthalate levels and their sexual satisfaction… researchers in China found that workers with higher levels of bisphenol A – commonly known as BPA – in their blood were more likely to have sexual problems, including decreased desire.”

Earlier research on Western fertility published by Dr Swan in 2017 – a comparison of sperm count from 1973 all the way to 2011 – also supports this thesis. Across four decades and 185 peer-reviewed studies conducted with close to 45,000 healthy men, the average sperm count was found to have dropped by over 50% due to ongoing pollutant exposure. And yes… penis shrinkage was apparent.

Dr Swan believes most men will be unable to shoot viable loads by as early as 2045.

“The current state of reproductive affairs can’t continue much longer without threatening human survival.”
