One of the best Apple Watch accessories available doesn’t have anything to do with enhancing the health and fitness tracking capabilities of Apple’s flagship wearable. It’s simply a charging dock that also doubles as a way to easily magnify the watch display, effectively turning your Apple Watch into a rather stylish, convenient alarm clock. Designed exclusively to support Apple Watch Nightstand mode, the aptly named NightWatch is a straightforward globe-shaped Apple Watch charging dock and it addresses one of the device’s most frustrating issues.

Anyone who has tried to use Apple Watch Nightstand mode will be familiar with the frustration of trying to use your wearable as a bedside alarm clock only to look up and struggle to see the time. The Apple Watch display was designed so you can tell the time from a very short distance. Nightstand mode assumes that you’d have your Apple Watch right next to you when you wake up. Most people don’t.

The NightWatch dock, then, essentially acts as a magnifying glass in which you simply insert your Apple Watch after you put it in Nightstand mode. The dock acts as not only a transparent orb that supersizes your display but also as an acoustic amplifier and charger.

The Apple Watch NightWatch dock can sit on your bedside table.

There are several novelty docks for Apple products out there, but the NightWatch, launched in 2021, is one of the more practical ones that we’ve seen. The orb is essentially a single block of polish lucite that has an open-back design so you can insert your Apple Watch. Note that it doesn’t have any charging capacity in and of itself; you’d need to also insert the charging puck behind the calibrated glass lens in order to juice up your Apple Watch while it rests on your bedside table.

The designers behind the Apple Watch NightWatch dock have also designed the glass lens to simply wake the watch whenever you touch the surface so that you can read your time clearly. The special acoustic channels that surround the globe also amplify your watch’s alarm so that it can actually fill a room. There is, unfortunately, no snooze function so if you want to keep pushing back your alarm you’d need to physically take the watch out of the dock.
