Smart goggles with heads up displays (HUDs) are increasingly popular in consumer technology and we’re beginning to see similar products stretch on out to other areas of life. In the past few years, that trend has been extended to snow sports with the likes of Oakley and Zeal getting on board with their own devices. It’s still a fairly new category, which the new Rekkie Smart Snow Goggles are hoping to take a step further with a highly detailed integrated HUD that connects to your phone, designed to make skiing and snowboarding that much more seamless.

Skiing and snowboarding don’t often benefit from substantial leaps in technology, so the Rekkie Smart Snow Goggles should be a nice way to enhance one’s experience on the slopes. You simply pop on the goggles and connect them to your phone, propping up a HUD that you can use to listen to music, check notifications and answer calls without taking off your gloves or pausing the action to rumble through your pockets.

The HUD also features various performance stats so you can track your progress via speed and elevation. There’s also a GPS-based group function that will show you a map and indicate where all your mates are on the hill, avoiding you having to annoyingly answer calls and texts when trying to re-group for an apres-ski session.

The best part is the HUD slinks away completely to only display the time upon pressing a glove-friendly button on the goggles – necessary for when you want absolutely no distractions on your next run.

In terms of design, Rekkie has gone with lightweight material that’s still durable and water-resistant enough for the setting. Your eyes should also be well protected with 23% VLT standard gray lenses that come with anti-fog technology.

BH hasn’t been able to go hands-on with the new smart ski goggles as of yet but a few reviews online indicate that Rekkie has hit the mark where brands like Oakley and Zeal have failed. In their review, Endless Rush Outdoors notes these are a “big step up from any past smart goggles” and praise the Rekkie App as an essential feature for families or ski groups who want to keep track of everyone’s movements on the slopes.

The Rekkie Smart Snow Goggles are available online for US$349 (AU$525).
