I don’t care what anyone says… size matters. And featuring seven seats across three rows, size is certainly what you’ll get with the recently unveiled 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. But you’d be mistaken in assuming the next-generation SUV offers nothing more beyond a little extra space. In fact, many are already hailing it as the ultimate family whip.
Borrowing a handful of design cues from the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the Grand Cherokee L has a Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 engine capable of delivering 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque; or a larger optional 5.7-litre V8 capable of delivering 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Eight-speed transmission is mated to both.
In terms of towing capacity, the standard model is rated for 6,200 pounds (2,812kg) while the upgraded version can pull 7,200 pounds (3,265kg). Paired with an improved ground clearance of up to 277mm thanks to an adjustable ride height, available water fording capability of up to 24 inches, 21-inch wheels, as well as the Jeep Selec-Terrain drive modes… the Grand Cherokee L also promises to be a certified weekend warrior.
