While most people are on board for the electric revolution that is taking place across all forms of transport, be they on the road or in the water, there’s one consistent issue faced by many electric car or boat owners: the lack of available charging stations. To solve this issue in the water, the team at the Spanish boatyard Magonis have just announced their MagBuoy, which doubles as a spot to park your boat and as a portable charging station.

Set to debut at the Boot Düsseldorf international boat show early next year, the Magonis MagBuoy technology has been developed at the firm’s Figueres shipyard and is reportedly compatible with all electric charging types from any other boatbuilder, making it extremely versatile. It arrives with its own built-in battery, which can either be charged directly from your own yacht or from mains power at your nearest port.

Simply drop it into the water and connect the MagBuoy to your electric boat via the power cord, and within a couple of hours, your boat is ready to go with a full battery. It’s a thoughtful new product that is as convenient as it is practical for the common challenge of finding adequate charging facilities when you pull into a new harbour.

“Making electric boats, and developing technology like the MAGBuoy that charges electric boats, means that more people who want to switch from petrol to electric have the infrastructure and confidence to do so,” explained François Jozic, CEO of Magonis.

“Enjoying wildlife and having the perfect boat day is always possible, especially when a MAGBuoy charger is nearby!”

While it’s been announced by Magonis, the shipyard is yet to release specific performance specifications such as battery size or charging speed of the MagBuoy, but we can expect all to be revealed in January when the buoy is officially launched.
