It’ll be a bad day to be a deepwater sportfish when the Royal Huisman Project 406 — which has been billed as the “world’s largest true sportfish yacht” with the luxuriousness of a superyacht — hits the open ocean.

The multi-year build project is finally reaching its conclusion as Project 406 prepares for launch in the coming weeks. Measuring a jaw-dropping 52 metres (171 feet) in length and towering at six distinct levels, it was devised by the team at Vripack Yacht Design, who took responsibility for the naval architecture, exterior, and interior design.

Despite the expertise of Vripack Yacht Design being principally in the development of luxuriously appointed superyachts, the team adapted quickly to the new challenge that required a range of sportfishing yacht-specific details. These included rod holders, fish buckets, bait wells, a fighting chair in the cockpit, and more.

In true superyacht scale, the soaring height of the top deck provides the perfect vantage point for scoping out fish or watching the action as it unfolds on the aft deck below. There’s a large sun lounge area at the bow of the Alustar aluminium-hulled vessel, and on the fourth level, the team at Vripack has installed another viewing zone for those who enjoy the spectacle of fishing when they’re not on the rod.

In total, a team of 350 experts has collaborated to make the Royal Huisman Project 406 a reality, ensuring the highest level of bespoke design and craftsmanship has been maintained while constructing a vessel of both scale and ambition. Due to launch in Amsterdam soon, we can only imagine what promises to be a lifetime of incredible fishing journeys ahead.
