It’s all well and good to have a beautiful yacht moored in the harbour, but if you’re making the journey from the shoreline to your floating pride and joy on a rusty dingy, it’s worth thinking about a new tender. The folks at Silent Yachts have just announced their first electric tender which, despite its lightweight build and compact length, still delivers plenty of power to get you wherever you’re going in a hurry.

The Austrian boatbuilder is best known for its line of sustainable solar-powered speedboats, catamarans and yachts (such as the recently launched 120 Explorer), making the tender something slightly unexpected from Silent Yachts. However, after receiving consistent client feedback seeking an electrified version of an A-to-B vessel, Silent Yachts got to work creating its first tender that could offer the best of sustainable power in a sleekly compelling package.

Measuring 4m in length (13ft) and weighing just 90kg (198 lbs), the SILENT Tender 400 is everything you could hope for in a runabout, with space for six passengers and an impressive top speed of 20 knots. It features a carbon fibre hull that is protected by a stripe of rubber coating for docking and can either be powered by an electric jet drive or an electric outboard motor. Power is drawn from either a 16kWh lithium battery that should be good for two hours at 10 knots cruising speed, with the option to upgrade to a 20kWh unit for additional range.

“We are very proud to present the new SILENT Tender 400, which is one of the most efficient electric tenders on the market,” said founder and CEO Michael Köhler.

“It follows the same design principles as our award-winning electric yachts, with dimensions that enable it to fit both the SILENT 60 series and SILENT 80 series yachts. What is more, the hull gives passengers a really dry ride, even at speed and in confused seas.”

“Silent-Yachts is already working on a larger 5.1m electric tender, specifically designed to fit the garage of the SILENT 80 series yachts,” Köhler added.

“This has been a repeated request from our owners – and one that we are delighted to respond to.”

It’s an exciting new space that Silent Yachts is working in, offering the perfect companion for any yacht with an outdated tender. So if you’ve been thinking about an upgrade, make sure you’re one of the first to pick up Silent Yachts’ new Tender 400.
