Every legend can trace its history back to a single moment, and for Porsche, that moment was 75 years ago when the German automaker registered its first sports car with a Porsche badge. To celebrate this milestone, Porsche commemorates the original 356 No. 1 Roadster with the release of the Porsche Vision 357 concept car that bridges a storied past and an exciting future.

This one-off supercar concept uses the compact 718 Cayman GT4 RS as its template but offers a silhouette with straightforward purity that emphasises the flowing contours of the roof shape as they sweep downwards into the oversized wheel arches. In a nod to Posches’ early years, the grey paintwork of the Porsche Vision 357 concept doesn’t demand attention while the combustion engine and dinosaur decal near the rear wheel arch is an unambiguous statement that the car is a look back in time, not a peek at what’s to come.

“We created a very special birthday present in the form of the Porsche Vision 357, one which uses the 356 as a basis to underscore the significance of our design DNA,” explains Michael Mauer, the Vice President Style Porsche. “The design study is an attempt to combine the past, present and future with coherency, featuring proportions that are reminiscent of its historical archetype and details that visualise the outlook for the future.”
