Every now and then, the universe gifts you with the perfect excuse to go balls deep in something that would otherwise be frowned upon. Such is the case of two very fortunate Italian Police officers who were provided with an opportunity to absolutely hammer the department’s Lamborghini Huracan – outside of the race track – in order to transport a donor kidney.

According to The Drive, the police officers in question were tasked with delivering the organ from Rome to Gemelli University Hospital in Padua. For reference, this 303-mile / 487-kilometre journey ordinarily takes over five hours to complete. In classic Italian fashion, however, they decided this simply wouldn’t do.

In a sequence which I can only imagine was comparable to something from 21 Jump Street starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, the officers borrowed a Lamborghini Huracan from highway patrol (specially modified with a refrigerated frunk), and reportedly floored it at an average speed of 145mph or 233 km/h. The entire trip was accomplished in just two hours.

As noted by several publications, it’s unclear why a helicopter wasn’t used in this case – or any other kind of aircraft for that matter – given it would have probably proven to be more efficient. Although using a 5.2-litre V10 supercar capable of generating 602 horsepower, achieving 0-100 in around 2.8 seconds, as well as a top speed of 202mph certainly proved to be the most Italian method available.
