When we said a chubby 23-year-old Slovenian man owned the NBA — we weren’t kidding. And one needn’t look any further than the 2022-23 regular season stats of Luka Doncic to confirm this claim.
As preemptive as it may be to call, we’ll just go ahead and say it: the Dallas Mavericks’ superstar point guard, who recently signed a record-breaking US$207 million rookie supermax extension with the Mark Cuban-owned franchise, is locked in and in lethal form. To the point where ESPN already has him pegged as an MVP frontrunner.

“Luka Doncic is looking like an early-season front-runner for MVP with a historic stat line for any player over the first nine games,” writes the prolific sports publication.
“The Dallas Mavericks haven’t faced any of the other expected contenders in the West but, with Doncic playing at his current level, they could prove to be trouble for any team.”
Doncic has officially surpassed the legendary Wilt Chamberlain’s second-best run of eight 30-point games to kick off a season. But at this stage, he’s still trailing The Stilt’s all-time record of 23 games (set back in 1962-63). Can you imagine?
