For those whose sense of scents trumps their budget-savvy sensibility – trying saying that quickly five or six times! – Celine is back once again, to plunder your wallets with a collection of supremely plush candles.

Translating the Parisian maison’s signature fragrances into the realm of physical spaces, the collection encompasses no less than half a dozen scents – including one modelled after the best-selling Nightclubbing EDP, Celine’s slinky nocturnal take on the classic amber fragrance category.

Each scent is housed in the same polished onyx jar, evoking the aesthetic of Celine boutiques; and together the collection offers scent-hounds a decent spread of olfactory styles which ranges from fresh and grassy (‘Grand Lys’) to those with a soothing cedar wood profile (‘L’Inventaire’).

In keeping with Creative Director Hedi Slimane’s notion of the perfumer-as-couturier, each of these new Celine flammables is made and poured by candle makers who, intriguingly, are also trained in the science of perfumery. All ingredients are combined in a heating process that is not allowed to exceed one hour; and the resulting wax is then cast for an additional day in order to “preserve the quality of ingredients chosen by [the brand’s] perfumers.”

Celine being, well… Celine, each of the six candles will only be produced in a finite production of 1,000 editions – though trigger-happy shoppers can also consider a range of related accessories, including a pair of wick trimmers (US$46), a snuffer ($142) or, perhaps most improbably, a silver cloche (US$176) – for covering your candle when not in use – that is almost twice the sticker price of every scent in the new collection.

In a practice that has now become the norm at Celine, the brand will launch its new candle collection online before opening up global availability at flagship stores. In Australia, you can pick these up on Saturday (October 28, UTC +11) at the link below online.
