Clearly not content to mod the beejezus out of a perfectly good Patek Philippe Nautilus, Certified Lover Boy Drake has now turned his attention to unique, icier-than-thou jewellery.

Most recently: a necklace weighing approximately 351.38 carats, fashioned from 42 engagement rings that the rapper had allegedly previously considered giving to his many and varied paramours.

Consisting of individual jewellery pieces which, at one time or another, were destined for the hands of everybody from Julia Fox to Sophie Brussaux, the ‘Previous Engagements’ necklace (as it’s officially called) is the work of New York-based Alex Moss – a jewellery designer who specializes in custom pieces, who counts rappers Jack Harlow and Tyler The Creator amongst his clientele.

The ‘Previous Engagements’ necklace isn’t the first time that the rapper occasionally known as Aubrey Graham has channeled Big Rings energy. In the past, he has been papped wearing a multi-million-dollar chain from Frank Ocean’s lifestyle jewellery brand Homer; and for at least half a decade, enjoyed a well-documented association with Ben Baller (of Icee Fresh Jewels fame).

Even without diving into the minutiae of cut, clarity and colour, the sheer size and weight of Drake’s ‘Previous Engagements’ necklace puts it in the ballpark of $12.5 million dollars. The Y-shaped chain that connects each stone together is itself made from 18k white gold; and, according to Moss, required “an expedition spanning 14 months” in order to properly set and decorate.

In all likelihood, that extended timeframe can be explained away by the sheer plethora of gem shapes at work in this engagement necklace – with round, emerald, pear-shaped and princess-cut diamonds all visible. I mean…that’s certainly one way to immortalise all the times you’ve contemplated holy matrimony – only to think to one’s self, “honestly? never mind”.
