When Everlane first ventured into ethical fashion, sneakers weren’t even a consideration due to their heavy footprint and trend driven consumption. Five years on, they’ve debuted The Trainer by Tread, an Everlane sub-brand with a mission to make the world’s most sustainable sneakers.

The Trainer by Tread and the ‘Tread’ brand officially launched on April 25, unveiling one unisex sneaker in seven colourways. The Trainer has been two years in the making, styling, sourcing, prototyping and constructing – and the result is an affordable, ethical and timeless everyday sneaker made with less waste and almost no virgin plastic.

The Trainer utilises leather from the world’s cleanest tannery, features a sole 94.2% free of virgin plastic, recycled plastic laces and lining and offsets 100% of its carbon footprint.

The US$98 sneaker (AU$140) is available in men’s sizes US7 through US13 and women’s US5 through US12, in seven monochromatic colourways: Off White, Glacier, Grey, Navy, Butter, Pale Pink, and Black. Check out our top picks below.

As we found out after the fact, Tread by Everlane run small so be sure to size up, we’d recommend going a full size if you’ve got a wide foot. Check out our initial thoughts in our Off The Cuff clip on Youtube.

Cop them at everlane.com with free shipping until May 1st 2019.
