The Seiko 5 collection is one of the most enduringly popular ranges of mechanical watches ever created, spanning thousands of different models over the decades and offering an entry point to watch collecting for most of the watch enthusiasts you’ll ever meet. This year, it’s celebrating its 55th anniversary and to mark the occasion, the Japanese watchmaker has launched the Seiko 5 ‘Customise’ Limited Edition collection, made up of the winning entries of fan-designed timepieces that were voted on as the most popular.

Containing no less than four different references, including the SRPK03, SRPK05, SRPK07 and SRPK08, the collection is the fruit of the “Show Your Love for Seiko 5 Sports Customize your watch” campaign where Seiko fans designed their ideal Seiko 5 models and submitted them to be voted on by the collecting community. These four designs were voted to be the most popular, three of which are iterations on the designs of archival references and the fourth rose gold-tone design is simply a stand-alone eye-catcher.

All of the references in the collection feature the same 42.5mm stainless steel cases (that are 13.8mm thick), are powered by the venerable automatic 4R36 movement with 41 hours of power reserve and are water resistant to 100m. Each piece in the Seiko 5 ‘Customise’ Limited Edition collection arrives with a commemorative design on the sapphire crystal caseback and is a limited edition of 1,968 pieces worldwide, set to arrive in Australia with an RRP of just $499. It honestly doesn’t get much better than that if you’re looking for a great affordable watch.
