Qantas has just opened a new Melbourne domestic business lounge for business class and platinum level passengers to enjoy. Designed in the style of a ‘supper club’, these updated facilities has been described as both “smart” and “spacious”.

“Dark tones” and “sophisticated finishes” are the central themes for the Melbourne domestic business lounge 2.0. Showcasing Nero Marquina marble imported from Northern Spain, brass and black metal fittings, as well as natural timber floors, the overall aesthetic nicely reflects Melbourne’s nouveau-chic vibes.

At the centrepiece of this all is the Spice Bar, serving Asian street food including freshly made noodles (which won’t be open until early November). Here, one can soon expect such speciality dishes as beef brisket noodle soup with bok choy and salted chilli, char sui pork with rice and stir fried choy sum, as well as Szechuan eggplant with rice and stir fried gai lan. In terms of drinks beyond the ultra-clean bar, there’s now a ‘Quench’ hydration station complete with both cool and hot drinks.

And for those productive travellers out there, the lounge now presents a whole lot of dedicated work benches and hub-like communal seating areas. Circles and circular arrangements seem to be the the favoured geometry here, but with plenty of USB and power sockets all about the fixed furniture and walls, who can really complain?
