“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” is great advice for anyone struggling to overcome life’s challenges, but for convicted fraudster Billy McFarland, it’s a phrase he should leave alone. Unfortunately, the “entrepreneur” doesn’t know when to quit and overnight tweeted his intentions to have another crack at his infamous island retreat with Fyre Festival 2, despite the first one resembling an apocalyptic nightmare worthy of a Cormac McCarthy novel.

The 2017 Fyre Festival will be remembered by history as the worst parts of Woodstock ’99 (you know, the looting, poor sanitation and violence) chaotically blended with a World Health Organisation refugee camp (yes, the WHO literally uses the same tents as the Fyre Festival organisers), and was so bad it earned itself a Netflix documentary titled Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. Why McFarland would think anyone would buy tickets to round two is completely beyond us.

Not only did he say with the childish confidence of a scolded toddler refusing to learn from their mistakes that, “Fyre Festival II is finally happening,” but even had the arrogance to solicit answers to the statement, “Tell me why you should be invited.” Strange things to be tweeting for a man who plead guilty to two counts of wire fraud and was sentenced to six years in prison for his first attempt at organising a festival.

One of these tents is from Fyre Festival and the other is from a WHO refugee camp in Syria. Can you pick which is which?

It’ll be interesting to hear how McFarland is funding Fyre Festival 2 after he was ordered to pay out US$26,182,386 (AU$39,382,681) to the numerous victims of the first failed festival, but equally, it will be fascinating to see if anyone actually buys a ticket when the event officially launches. We’ll have to wait and see.
