Starting from today, residents of Victoria will be able to apply for free regional travel vouchers valued at $200. With 120,000 up for grabs divvied up across three separate batches of 40,000 and valued at $28 million in total, this first-come-first-serve offer is likely to be exhausted fast. Or to paraphrase Tourism Minister Martin Pakula, demand will outstrip supply.

“It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy an extra nights’ accommodation on a weekend getaway or to experience one of our many tours and attractions,” says Pakula.

“A bit more money in people’s pockets means they can see more and do more in regional Victoria – helping local businesses and the people and communities they support to bounce back.”

Travel vouchers can be used in regional parts of Victoria as well as the Yarra Ranges and Mornington Peninsula – valid from December 12th all the way until May 2021. Conditions aside from the obvious prerequisite of being a Victorian resident aged 18+ include:

  • Spending $400 or more on accommodation, tourism attractions, or tours
  • Booking two nights of paid accommodation minimum during the specified periods
  • One travel voucher per household

Successful applicants will be notified within 24 hours, thereby providing a tidy $200 reimbursement after the trip in question has been completed and relevant receipts are submitted.

Round One of the vouchers will be released today, which covers travel from December 12th to January 22nd. Round Two will be released on January 20th, which covers travel from January 27th to April 1st. Round Three – your final chance – will be released on March 30th, which covers travel from April 6th to May 31st.
