Australia officially has the third-best beach in the world for 2023 according to TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards. While a nod to Cable Beach in Western Australia is a far cry from the recent best beaches in Australia list released by Tourism Australia, it comes off the back of some arguably more reliable, crowd-sourced metrics which place the Broome local just behind Brazil’s famous Baia do Sancho (pictured above) and Eagle Beach in Aruba, The Caribbean.

As was the case last year, it appears this list was pulled together by Tripadvisor’s editorial team based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings on the platform. Last year, Tripadvisor also considered the number of “saves” for each beach, and while it hasn’t been made clear, I assume that formed part of the criteria as well.

Cable Beach tops the list when it comes to beaches in the South Pacific specifically, besting the likes of Manly Beach (#2), Emily Bay (#3) Mooloolaba Beach (#4) and Matira Beach (#5) in French Polynesia. And while Australia pretty much dominates this niche list, New Zealand gets a lick in with Tahunanui Beach (#7) and Fiij as well with Natadola Beach (#10). For a regional breakdown of the world’s best beaches you can head on through to the Tripadvisor awards landing page below.

Cable Beach keeps some good company on the global list. The full 25-beach round-up – included below – also includes sandy sojourns from some of the world’s most prized beachside destinations including Turks and Caicos, Portugal, Sicily and Hawaii. Iceland and India are also represented nicely here, presenting a fairly diverse list of the world’s best beaches.

Cable Beach in Broome is named the third-best beach in the world.
