After finding huge success in Melbourne, Fortress Sydney has opened in Chippendale as the city’s largest gaming complex.
Central Park Mall has always been a strange prospect. The mid-sized shopping centre, sandwiched by Kensington Street and a Four Points by Sheraton property, never really had much going for it until a cinema opened there a few years ago. Now the precinct is destined to become Sydney’s gaming mecca with the opening of Fortress Sydney.
As above, the new venue is the largest gaming complex of its kind with just about everything you can think of when it comes to a broad spectrum of time-sinking fun, from a huge eSports Alienware Arena and PC Lan Lounge to classic arcade games and a massive board game library.
Australia was first introduced to the Fortress brand with Fortress Melbourne opening in March 2020 as the Southern Hemisphere’s first video game and eSports venue of its kind. With 2,700 square metres of state-of-the-art facilities, it’s fast become one of the city’s most popular entertainment complexes.
Now Sydneysiders are in for much of the same thing. Fortress Sydney mirrors everything that made the Melbourne venue so popular, set across 2,500 square metres with a 1,000-punter capacity.

All experience levels are seemingly catered for here. The more “hardcore” gamers would typically kill time in the Streamer Pods or by getting their competitive Call of Duty fix in at the high-speed Telstra PC Lan Lounge. Others will likely be split amongst the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired Fantasy Tavern, private party booths or the all-encompassing arcade, which has everything from video motorbike racing to basketball hoops set up.
You’ll also find a sci-fi, Tron-style bar at Fortress Sydney called 2315, simply themed on imagining what a cocktail bar would look like in that far-off year. Assuming bars will even exist by then.
