For better or for worse, nobody is safe from the artificial intelligence revolution. Especially not a streaming platform like Spotify, which has just launched a beta version of its AI Playlist feature to join its slightly unsettling AI DJ.

Essentially, it’s an extension of the existing Song Radio function. With nothing more than a text prompt, users can now generate entire playlists curated to whatever input you’ve punched in. The real test, however, will lie in the quality of said playlists, considering the well-documented teething issues with AI DJ.

To find Spotify’s AI Playlist:

  • Head to the mobile app and select Your Library at the bottom-right corner.
  • Tap the “+” button at the top-right corner and select AI Playlist.
  • Select one of the suggested prompts or type out your own — the more creative and specific the better (e.g. “slow jam seduction tracks,” “songs for doing taxes”).
  • Spotify will then offer some tracks that match the “vibe.”
  • From there, you can easily manage the selection of songs by previewing and deleting tracks; as well as refining the playlists by telling AI Playlist what you’re looking for (i.e. “less ‘Cotton Eye Joe,’” “more ‘Cotton Eye Joe'”).
  • Tap Create and the new playlist will be saved automatically in Your Library.

While ostensibly designed to be fun — given how it’s still in the testing stage — AI Playlist won’t produce results for “non-music-related prompts,” like current events or specific brands, nor will it spit anything out following an “offensive” prompt (unfortunately).

The beta for Spotify’s AI Playlist feature is currently available on all Android and iOS devices for premium subscribers in the UK and Australia.
