Our Top Picks On Binge June 2022

Westworld Season 4

Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have proven to be highly skilled storytellers as they have unravelled the very complex world of Westworld over the past three seasons. While Westworld season 3 may have taken a hard left-turn away from the robotic themepark beginnings of the show, the HBO series did plenty of justify what was a very unexpected decision, helped along by cast members Aron Paul, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright and Thandiwe Newton to continue the absolute masterclass in world-building. It’s looking like we’ll continue with the real-world for most of Westworld season 4 – if the trailer is anything to go by – but as fans of the show know better than to expect something straight forward and linear from the cryptic drama.

Foxcatcher

This psychological sports drama was a hit for both critics and audiences when it was released in 2014, with plenty of praise flung at director Bennett Miller (Moneyball, Capote) who follows a complicated story loosely based on the controversy surrounded the E.I. du point family. Two 1984 US Olympic gold medalists wrestlers are recruited to help coach for various competitions, although one – David Schultz – is murdered. That’s the long-short of it all, but what really elevates Foxcatcher and makes it something well worth watching if you’re looking for something new on Binge is the exceptional performances from all three leads – Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo.

Castle Falls

Production may look cheap, but don’t mistake the budget aesthetic as reason to skip over Castle Falls. Featuring a very grounded performance from Dolph Lundgren, the underrated film follows the imminent destruction of Castle Heights Hospital, an old building rigged with dynamite and – unknown to almost everyone – a stash of $3 million once hidden by a gang leader. Three different parties discover the location of the money and have exactly 90 minutes to fish the cash out before it’s all blown to bits. It may a lazy way to build tension, but this crime banger is at least more entertaining than most of the new movies coming to Binge in June 2022.

How Are Things Looking For Binge Australia In June 2022?

While last month was all about HBO drama We Own This City, led by Jon Bernthal and David Simon as somewhat of a spiritual successor to The Wire. While we’re still waiting for that new series to find its feet, Binge is giving us another highly anticipated HBO show with the return of Westworld. It’s been two long years of waiting for Westworld season 4, so we’re hoping a return to this complicated world of android themeparks and puppeteers helps Binge make up for what is a relatively weak release schedule as we dive towards the middle of the year.

Film wise, there’s not much. Castle Falls may be low budget and a bit plodding, but the Dolph Lundgren crime film is at least entertaining enough. The main film to watch here is Foxcatcher, especially if you’ve never seen it before. Other than that, crickets. Luckily there is more than enough to watch on Binge to help up the value with the affordable streaming service.
