The Most Watched TV Shows Of 2020

There’s a certain comfort to be found in rewatching a beloved series. Something about the familiarity and time-honoured moments – oftentimes comedic – is a sure-fire way to secure a bit of serotonin when you’re feeling low, almost neurologically comparable to seeing an old mate. Which is probably why a good majority of the most watched and rewatched TV shows in the modern era just so happen to be ensemble affairs centred around that very concept: a tight-knit group of people, be it social, professional, or both.

According to data collated by BroadbandDeals, approximately 22% of people have rewatched their favourite TV shows more than 10 times. And interestingly enough, 11 of the top 15 list entrants are currently available to stream via Australian Netflix (with 3 of the remaining 4 having once been in the ANZ Netflix catalogue). Certainly not a coincidence, if you ask me.

While The Office (US) only came in at #3 for the most rewatched list, the Nielsen figures revealed to be the most watched – or rather, streamed – TV show in 2020 “by far”, racking up 57.1 billion minutes across the American population alone. Following up the ranks, we have Grey’s Anatomy at 39.4 billion minutes, then Criminal Minds at 35.4 billion minutes. People seem to love formulas.
