Felons Brewing Co’s Barrel-Aged Beers

I’ve been receiving press packs from Brisbane-based Felon’s Brewing Co coming on for two years now. Every so often a new and often slightly rogue bunch of beers end up in the BH office fridge, but last week’s delivery really stood out. The brewery’s new barrel-aged collection of four unique beverages caught the whole office off-guard. Four surprisingly scrummy beers in 750ml bottles have been aged in the likes of French oak white wine barrels and American whiskey barrels.

I can only speak to the finish on the palate for the ‘Land at Last’ and ‘Red Sky at Night’ drops from the press pack, but they really struck me as a compelling alternative to an orange wine as a delicious savoury option when hosting people for dinner or enjoying a sundowner on a Sunday. These beers have been in the making for two years and are already selling out. Great drinking at $35 per bottle. – John

The Rover, Surry Hills

When Liquid & Larder, the same team behind The Gidley and Bistecca, announced they were dramatically changing the way they do things at The Rover there were more than a few locals nervous. The beloved whisky bar turning into more of an upscale seafood bistro seemed like a curious change but last year the team pulled it off brilliantly.

Now they’ve added a second floor with a more sophisticated seafood bistro vibe, inspired by the moody fresh catch venues that you’d typically find around New York State and New England. It’s even better now, with standout dishes like eel pate served with crumpets, a beautiful, big seafood pie and other highlights like scampi and cuttlefish. It’s the perfect local for seafood lovers who don’t necessarily want to scale the immense demand for Saint Peter. – Chris

Custom Cartier Crash

Boss Hunting’s Favourite Things: March 2023

One of the coolest watches I spotted in the halls of Watches & Wonders was this unique green dial Cartier Crash on the wrist of @arabwatchguide. After seeing blue dial unique pieces on the wrists of Eric Ku and Wei Koh, while visiting the manufacture Hassan asked Cartier if they would ever consider producing an example in yellow gold with a green dial and to his surprise, they loved the idea.

Complete with his name engraved on the caseback and a dial colour that has never been seen on a Cartier Crash before, it’s one of the coolest unique pieces I’ve ever had the pleasure of handling. – Nick Kenyon

Lokal, Surry Hills

Boss Hunting’s Favourite Things: March 2023

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Surry Hills lies the latest offering from hospitality veterans Patrick Frawley and Nelson Cramp. A 20-seat natural wine bar whose approach is simple; great food, great wine and great service. Well and truly delivering on all of the above, the space is modern, cosy and quiet – the perfect place for a few midweek share plates and a glass of vino with your date.

Featuring bottles from all corners of the globe and making a point of supporting low-intervention producers, Patrick will happily guide you through the extensive wine list, offering you tastings of anything that sparks your interest. If you’re after something bright and delicate, don’t go past the Benotti Rosavica Langhe ‘Nebiulina’, which pairs beautifully with a charcuterie starter. My only concern with Lokal is the frequency with which I will be visiting in the future. – Nick Mayor

Tom Ford Ombre Leather

Boss Hunting’s Favourite Things: March 2023

I’m sick of oud. Even a weekend in Dubai can do that for you. I am not, however, sick of leathery fragrances. Those really meaty, creamy, masculine notes. Tom Ford Ombre Leather never really appealed to me whenever I tested it out in passing but after being sent a bottle, I’m completely wrapped by the slightly restrained profile, which seems to last much longer than most Tom Ford perfumes and wears incredibly well for those special occasions. – Chris
