The day your childhood ambitions align with your adult bank balance is truly a beautiful moment. For most of us, this means the stupidest (and concerningly nutritionless) grocery runs known to man, usually in the first few weeks of moving out of home. But for one lucky bastard with deep pockets, it entails the following 1:32-scale slot car race track housed inside a replica Porsche 917 body.

Built by Slot Mods of Detroit, Michigan with dimensions measuring 13 feet x 6 feet, the two-lane slot track in question is modelled after the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit as it appeared in Le Mans (1971) starring Steve McQueen. And it’s so. Goddamn. Detailed.

From the landscaping and sponsorship inclusions to the two-tier grandstand packed with spectator figurines, functioning lighting fixtures, and mechanic’s garage, characterising this hand-painted masterpiece as a thing of beauty would be the understatement of a century. Your inner child will likely shed tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

Onto the player station, this particular component of the headline-making Porsche slot car track features power switches and trigger-style analogue race controllers which enable two cars to tear it up simultaneously.

The entire set-up is wired to a 120-volt power source and comes with an assortment of 19 slot cars – each showcasing a period livery and outfitted with its own driver; a modified GT40 serving as a camera car – plus two stools in addition to the aforementioned controllers.

As for the replica Porsche 917 body apparently constructed from composite material and fitted over a tubular frame that rolls on casters, as outlined by the Bring A Trailer listing:

The body features a clamshell design with three hinges fitted to the right side, and the power-operated opening mechanism can be activated via a surface-mounted switch or wireless remote controlThe shell is finished in Gulf livery with sponsor logos and features number 20 on the front, sides, and rear. Details include functional headlights and taillights, a windshield wiper, side windows, simulated dual exhaust outlets, and a hinged fuel-filler cap. Black centre-lock wheels are fitted with racing slicks that show wear.

Unfortunately, the only way you’ll get your hands on Slot Mod’s magnum opus is directly from whoever just snapped it up via auction for US$205,000 (AU$300,000) – beating 83 other serious bidders.
