In the ever-electrified automotive landscape, Alpine has thrown its hat into the ring with one of the first serious EV hot hatches — the A025 Alpine A290 — featuring a “push-to-pass” boost mode that’ll make inner-city overtakes feel like you’re on the racetrack.
The launch marks the beginning of Alpine’s 100% electric Dream Garage, with a GT C-Crossover and a new A110 set to join the A290.
The 2025 Alpine A290 is powered by a single front mounted electric motor capable of delivering 132kW in the base and GT Premium models; or if you’re hunting a little more power, 162kW in the GT Performance and GTS models (with a 0-100 sprint time of 6.4 seconds).

This motor draws from a 52kWh battery pack which, according to independent testing, delivers a solid 380km of driving range.
Its electric platform is derived from the Ampere, arriving with the Mobilize Power and bi-directional V2G recharging systems, while getting 150 kilometres of driving range after just 15 minutes of charging.
“Our Alpine A290 is the first model of a new electric generation, inaugurating our Dream Garage in the finest possible way,” said Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine in a statement.
“This urban sportscar marks the introduction of Alpine to a broader public and resurrects a forgotten category, the hot hatch, so much loved for the driving pleasure it delivers.”
As you’d expect, the 2025 Alpine A290 boasts a sleek design, advanced technical features, comprehensive connectivity, and extensive customisation options. Owners will enjoy four driving modes — Save, Normal, Sport, and Personal — as well as a 10.1-inch infotainment display and another 10.25-inch instrument display.

The A290 represents a significant milestone for Alpine as it embraces the electric era. It not only delivers the thrilling performance expected from the brand, but also incorporates state-of-the-art technology and a sleek profile on the road.
While it’s been confirmed for European showrooms by the end of this year, there’s no word yet on if or when the 2025 Alpine A290 will hit Australian shores. However, considering the A110 is available locally, we’ve got our fingers crossed the A290 will come to Australia too.
