- The AFL has officially announced Snoop Dogg as the headline act for the 2025 Grand Final’s pre-game entertainment.
- CEO Andrew Dillon hints that a homegrown performer is also set to join the line-up for the “biggest event on the Australian sporting calendar.”
- 2025 AFL Grand Final date: September 27th.
Snoop Dogg is set to join the rarefied company of Slim Dusty, Olivia Newton-John, Meat Loaf, Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, The Killers, as well as his ‘California Gurls’ collaborator Katy Perry when he takes the stage to perform at this year’s AFL Grand Final.
In an audacious move to assert its claim as Australia’s #1 sport, the league has managed to nab the noted botany enthusiast and hip-hop icon of ‘Gin & Juice,’ ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot,’ and ‘Still Dre,’ fame. And come September, Uncle Snoop will certainly make a compelling case for AFL’s cultural dominance over the NRL when he headlines the Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment.
“The AFL Grand Final is the biggest event on the Australian sporting calendar – and this year, it just got a whole lot bigger,” said AFL CEO Andrew Dillon.
“Snoop Dogg is a pioneer, a performer, and a true entertainer. He’s played to packed stadiums around the world – but we think 100,000 fans at the MCG might just be his most iconic crowd yet… and we’re ready to make history.”

Tha Doggfather himself added: “It’s an absolute honour to be hitting the stage at the AFL Grand Final – it’s one of the biggest events on the Aussie calendar. Can’t wait to bring the energy and celebrate with the fans. Let’s make it unforgettable.”
Super Bowl-calibre musical talent aside and $4.5 billion broadcast agreement aside, the AFL’s crowd and membership numbers suggest things are going well for the code.
With two rounds still left on the cards and an extra game, across this ongoing season so far, 7,002,277 fans have already attended matches. According to news.com.au, this past weekend’s average attendance tallied in excess of 33,000, whereas only a solitary NRL fixture exceeded 25,000 (Bulldogs vs Warriors).
Additionally, nine clubs have broken their all-time membership records this year: the cumulative total across 18 teams recently hit a new record of 1,324,504 members. That essentially equates to one in 21 Australians being a card-carrying AFL club member.
Small wonder how they convinced Snoop Dogg to trek Down Under for the gig…
