When it comes to online services, the land down under has historically been left with a fistful of short straws. We didn’t receive Netflix until 2015, we didn’t receive Amazon until 2017, and I’d argue that we don’t even really have internet right now (at least not by first or second world standards). But December should prove to be a wonderful Christmas for local boxing fans with the announcement that DAZN streaming service will soon be launching in Australia.

Established in 2016 with the backing of billionaire Len Blavatnik, DAZN quickly rose to prominence as the leading platform for live and on-demand sports content. While countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and the US currently offers more than just combat sports – ranging from soccer to bowling to handball – what it’s most commonly known for these days is boxing (and providing Canelo Alvarez with the third richest sporting contract of all time valued at US$365,000,000). Naturally, boxing will be the initial focus when it arrives at our sunburnt shores, along with 200 other geographical locations.

Unsurprisingly, this forthcoming global expansion will be tied with two highly-anticipated fights: the Justin Bieber of boxing, Ryan Garcia, facing off against 2012 Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell on December 5th; and heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua throwing hands with Bulgarian challenger Kubrat Pulev a week later on December 12th. Suffice it to say, there are a few very enticing carrots being dangled in front of us.

In addition to live events, DAZN will also come with an entire catalogue of classic fights, documentaries, weekly shows, and other original content within DAZN’s well-curated portfolio that’ll keep you glued on those couches. All this for a starting subscription price of just $2.99/month.

“From the UK to Mexico to Australia, we’ve seen an encouraging level of interest in our key events since first launching in 2016,” says Joseph Markowski, DAZN Executive Vice President.

“We’re looking forward to introducing the DAZN platform around the world this December with an exciting schedule of fights.”

DAZN will officially debut in Australia from December 1st.
