The Kansas City Chiefs’ strategic 38-35 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LVII must be tasting particularly sweet for wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who only discovered the hefty performance bonus outlined within his 2022-23 contract during the post-game interview.
The question was posed: “Are you aware of the incentive you hit today?”
To which Smith-Schuster gleefully replied, “Nah, nah, nah… did I make some money?”
Having fulfilled the criteria of playing at least 50% of the offensive snaps in the Super Bowl, as well as winning the damn thing under the on-field leadership of legendary-quarterback-in-the-making Patrick Mahomes II, Smith-Schuster effectively unlocked a million-dollar payday (AU$1.45 million).

“Give the guys that gave you the news a cut,” joked the hosting panel.
According to Sportrac, the Super Bowl wasn’t the only occasion JuJu Smith-Schuster hit a juicy performance bonus this past year – a similar deal involving the AFC Championship also exists within said 2022-23 contract, which pays a similar US$1 million (AU$1.45 million) lump sum. In total, #9 stood to earn a potential US$7.5 million (AU$10.85 million) worth of extras this season.
US$1.5 million (AU$2.2 million) signing bonus aside, considering Smith-Schuster’s one-year agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs only amounts to a smidge over $1 (AU$1.45 million) million, he’s effectively tripled his base salary in the post-season period. Not a bad run, indeed.
With no word on whether the franchise will continue their partnership at this stage, JuJu Smith-Schuster enters the season break a free agent.
