In a move that’d have Tyler Durden himself sick to his stomach, Oakley is bringing back the cult-hit MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather shades.

Famously designed in collaboration with the Michael Jordan, and just as famously worn by Brad Pitt in Fight Club (hence the Durden crack), the reissue comes 25 years after it disappeared from shelves. Complete with the original X-Metal alloy frame, sewn-in brown leather fabrics, and Prizim 24K lenses.

The MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather 2.0 has been recreated using the very same cutting-edge tech that produces metal components for aerospace endeavours: a direct metal laser sintering process where high-powered lasers melt the “intricate” X-Metal powder.

But this apparently requires quite some energy. It took a six-ton generator with 425,000 watts of power to produce this singular silhouette to push the five-axis machining, thereby maintaining a .0005-inch precision.

It’s then hand-finished before the suede leather is hand-stitched into the chassis. Craftmanship redefined.

“Bonding science and art around one concept was how we first landed on MARS,” explained Brian Takumi, Oakley Vice President (Brand Soul & Creative).

“As the 90s ramped up, the piece defined a moment in culture, appearing on the silver screen to basketball players.”

Takumi added: “Its futuristic design was ahead of its time, defying the era it’s brought into. With the imminent arrival of our 50th anniversary in 2025, bringing it back from our archives and our DNA, MARS is just one of the portals set to expanding the Oakleyverse.”

The Oakley MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather sunglasses are now available for $2,959. Hit the link below for more [UPDATE: they’re sold out, try your luck on the secondary market].
