As much as we all love something shiny and new, there’s nothing quite like a heritage-inspired reissue. And that’s exactly what RIMOWA has delivered with its Hammerschlag collection.

Created in partnership with famed contemporary composer Nils Frahm, the two-piece luggage release takes its design cues from a 1966 “hammer hit” luggage immortalised in RIMOWA’s own archive.

This limited-edition series breathes new life into the aesthetic, which stood out in the history books thanks to its unique textured aluminium surface dubbed Hammerschlag. As RIMOWA celebrates its 125th anniversary, the introduction of this collection marks a nod to the Maison’s storied legacy.

RIMOWA’s Hammerschlag collection includes the Hammerschlag Hand-Carry Case ($3,470), a direct homage to the original design, and the Hammerschlag Cabin ($4,180). Effectively, the duo perfectly encapsulate traditional manufacturing techniques with a contemporary twist.

The Hammerschlag Cabin showcases the same robust construction, telescopic handle, and TSA-approved locks, along with an unmistakably vintage-inspired nylon and leather interior. The collection also revisits the original leather handle in cognac that’s complemented by a distinctive cognac leather luggage tag secured via a metal bridge.

Similarly, the Hand-Carry Case Hammerschlag boasts the collection’s signature exterior, and flaunts a similar 60s leather and premium nylon construction. Each features an individually numbered leather panel with the Hand-Carry Case limited to just 966 examples and the Cabin limited to 1,898.

The RIMOWA Hammerschlag collection will be available in stores both worldwide and online from March 28th, 2024.
