Among the ranks of universally loved Hollywood A-listers, there are no more discerning than Ryan Gosling when it comes to brand relationships, having only inked his first partnership with TAG Heuer a year ago. However, Gucci recently announced none other than Ryan Gosling as the face of its latest campaign, proving the pull of the Italian fashion giant irresistible to even the most stoically independent celebrities and cementing its position as one of the most desirable brands on the planet.

The announcement of Gucci and Gosling coming together is a surprise on the face of it, especially considering how brand averse Ryan has been over the course of his career so far, but for those paying attention the signs were everywhere. Over the last few months Gosling has been on a worldwide tour to promote his latest film The Grey Man, which meant plenty of events and interviews, which he enthusiastically approached in some of the most eye-catching outfits we’ve seen him wearing to date.

Likewise, Gosling was all over our feeds to promote another project he’s been working on alongside Margot Robbie in Barbie, which may have inspired him to don a custom pastel pink suit on a red carpet in London back in July. The common thread between all of these public appearances wearing head-turning outfits is their manufacturer, which should have told us everything we needed to know about his newest partner: Gucci.

Ryan Gosling makes his Gucci debut in the recent Valigeria campaign that focuses on the fashion label’s expansive range of luggage and travel offerings, showing Gosling on the move by the seaside, accompanied by a classic car and photographed lounging in nostalgic motel rooms. Shot by Glen Luchford, a close collaborator of Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, the campaign shows Gosling wearing the same retro-inspired suiting and bold shirts that he’s been seen in all year so far.

While some ambassador announcements feel a little ill-fitting, the link-up between Gosling and Gucci fits like a glove. Gosling follows in the successfully trodden footsteps of Harry Styles and Lana Del Rey, while Gucci adds one of Hollywood’s most hard-to-get talents into its stable of eclectic icons. How good.
