Drake’s Midas touch isn’t just limited to his ability to create one chart-topping album after another, with the discovery of a very special pair of golden Air Jordans that were made for the rapper. Unsurprisingly, Drake is very well looked after by the team at Nike and this pair of OVO x Air Jordan 8 Samples that recently surfaced with a dealer is all the proof you need that when it comes to rare sneakers, the Degrassi: The Next Generation star has it all.
In the same week that Drake’s hotly anticipated NOCTA x Nike Air Force 1 Low “Certified Lover Boy” collab was released, the Chicago-based sneaker dealer English Sole revealed a pair of the rare golden Jordans to the world. Made in Drake’s size US12 and featuring metallic gold uppers, the sneakers were created as one of the sample colourways that the rapper’s OVO brand was working on with Air Jordan but never reached the production stage.

“These Jordan 8 OVOs come in a flaky metallic gold foil similar to the other unreleased OVO shoes,” said English Sole in an Instagram post about the shoes. “The pair does not have the traditional Owl branding that most OVO shoes have, but it has enough of the same features to hint at the intention of their design. Would you rock these?”
As a musician with a taste for precious metals in all their forms, this isn’t the first time Air Jordan has created a golden sneaker with Drake, with previous examples including the collaborative Air Jordan 11, while the footwear brand has also separately released the Air Jordan 8 in gold. While you might expect to see the signature OVO owl logo on this collaborative sneaker, this pair doesn’t feature the logo in its design, instead featuring meticulous embroidery on the tongue and “AIR JORDAN” embossed on the ankle strap.
Understood to have been made in 2017, Drake has never been spotted wearing these golden sneakers out in the wild, which all but guarantees they will never be publicly available. This means that if you want this pair of unreleased kicks on your own feet, you’ll need to make it happen through the folks at English Sole.
