  • Footwear brand HOKA has linked up with Melbourne-founded cycling label MAAP to create a collaborative technical trail-running shoe.
  • Based on HOKAโ€™s popular Tecton X2 silhouette, the collaboration is executed in a โ€œlimeadeโ€ colourway and features a high-performance parallel carbon plate.
  • The HOKA x MAAP collaboration will be a limited edition shoe thatโ€™s available online from July 15th with an RRP of $350.

The rise and rise of Melbourne-founded cycling label MAAP is showing no signs of slowing, as the brand announces a collaboration with running giant HOKA. The result of the partnership between the two cult-followed brands is a limited edition version of the Tecton X2 trail-running shoe, which brings the worlds of cycling and running together in a fresh, lime-accented approach.

While thereโ€™s not much that running and cycling have in common with each other as far as equipment goes, the crossover in the communities that love both is increasingly large. No longer the exclusive domain of middle-aged professionals, thereโ€™s zero doubt cycling and running have become cool in recent years.

Both HOKA and MAAP have ridden the post-pandemic wave of well-heeled, fashion-conscious inner-city types getting into aerobic exercise as a means of staying fit and making new friends. Both brands are catering to this growing demographic with exciting special editions, compelling designs, and moodboards closer to an underground fashion magazine than a finish-line photo.

The HOKA x MAAP Tecton X2 trail-running shoe is the perfect expression of this new era: itโ€™s extremely stylish, thoughtfully designed, and guaranteed to get folks talking over a post-run coffee. The shoes feature reflective elements inspired by MAAPโ€™s cycling kit, boast a parallel carbon plate in the midsole for a little extra speed, and have splattered paint details to encourage owners to get them dirty.

โ€œWeโ€™re seeing more and more crossover between fashion and endurance sports, and that speaks to a broader desire to get outside and incorporate movement into our everyday lives,โ€ said Misha Glisovic, MAAP Chief Creative Officer, in a statement.

โ€œWe see both MAAP and HOKA as brands that prioritise performance while creating a ripple effect that extends beyond our respective sports, ultimately bridging the gap between lifestyle consumers and dedicated athletes.โ€

To mark the launch of the collaboration, MAAP is set to host a series of community experiences in Melbourne, Los Angeles, and Berlin this weekend. The HOKA x MAAP collaboration launches exclusively at MAAP stores on July 11th, followed by a global release on both MAAP and HOKA sites on July 15th with an RRP of $350.
