New Balance can’t seem to miss at the moment. Off the back of collaborations with Aimé Leon Dore, Franck Muller and (conspicuously) COMME des GARÇONS HOMME, New Balance has announced its latest collaborator as the CdG-founded multi-brand retailer Dover Street Market.
Dover Street Market is the brainchild of Rei Kawakubo, the Japanese designer and founder of COMME des GARÇONS, and her husband Adrian Joffe, who is the president of CdG. Inspired by the cultural hub of Kensington Market in London, Dover Street Market first opened its doors in London’s Mayfair and has seven locations around the world today.
Stocking the who’s who of contemporary fashion brands, DSM offers Balenciaga, Vans, Céline, Gucci, LOEWE, Nike, Proenza Schouler, Vetements, Common Projects, Supreme, and many more. The shoes will be made in New Balance’s UK factory in Flimby, Cumbria, and will serve as a commemorative collaboration to celebrate 40 years of New Balance making shoes in the UK.

The 991 silhouette has been elevated with the premium materials you’d expect the team at DSM to be responsible for, featuring grey mesh uppers that contrast a darker grey nubuck leather. Beige leather has been selected for the toe box, tongue and heel, with a matching tone found on part of the sole unit.
“Dover Street Market and New Balance join forces on a special edition of the cult 991 model,” DSM explains in the product description. “Crafted in New Balance’s UK factory in Flimby, Cumbria, the release marks the 40-year milestone of manufacturing in the UK.”
Co-branding between DSM and New Balance can be found embroidered into the heel, as well as printed onto the sock liner, adding to the detail-rich collaborative effort. The New Balance and Dover Street Market 911s will be available from the 14th of April, with an RRP of $285.
