As we barrel towards the winter months, Qantas is clearly looking at moving Aussies around the country with its latest domestic flight sale. No less than one million seats have been put up for sale, with one-way economy fares starting at $99 inclusive of checked baggage across more than 100 routes.

Postured for travel periods across both this year and next year, the latest Qantas sale – officially titled “The Australia Red Tail Sale” – kicks off today (Wednesday, April 26) and runs for eight days, right up until 11:59 PM AEST on Wednesday, May 3 unless sold out prior. And there’s a big chance a lot of these seats will be gone by then, given popular routes are on the cards including Sydney to Byron Bay.

There are four different travel periods for most of these fares, which is as follows:

  • Wednesday, July 19 – Thursday, September 14, 2023
  • Tuesday, October 10 – Thursday, December 14, 2023
  • Monday, January 15 – Friday, March 22, 2024
  • Thursday, June 1 – Thursday, June 22, 2024

Given Sydney to Byron Bay is the cheapest of the lot, as is the case with most of these flight sales, and the first travel period includes the Splendour in the Grass dates (July 21 – 23), it’d be a smart move to at least jump on board and lock in those Splendour flights before they start climbing.

You’ve also got plenty of other destinations included in the new Qantas sale, including Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Mt. Gambier, Broken Hill, Kalgoorlie and Perth. Seats on services like Gold Coast to Melbourne climb up to $135 while you’re looking at $139 on flights from Melbourne to Sydney, Hobart to Melbourne, and Brisbane to Sydney.

It’s looking like the most expensive flight in this sale would be the cross-country trek from Perth to Sydney starting at $309.
