There are very few properties that embody the luxurious aesthetic of the Côte d’Azu like Carlton Cannes, a Regent hotel. The Grand Dame of Promenade de la Croisette in Cannes is the region’s most celebrated and elite property so luxury travellers are paying close attention to its high-profile reopening, the result of a two-year transformation turning the former InterContinental Carlton Cannes into an even higher-end Regent hotel.

Opened in 1913, the property, which now claims the largest infinity pool in Cannes, has always been a symbol of wealth in the region. It was featured prominently in movies like To Catch a Thief and French Kiss, as well as Elton John’s music video for ‘I’m Still Standing,’ solidifying it as a Cannes institution on par with some of the country’s most lauded accommodations such as Hotel Plaza Athenee and Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel. Over the years, it’s played host to just about every figure in Hollywood during the Cannes Film Festival, as well as various presidents and dignitaries.

Spurred by its ambitious rework, Carlton Cannes, a Regent hotel is looking to reassert itself in a country that’s now teeming with bucket list luxury hotels. Interior designer Tristan Auer and architect Richard Lavelle have spearheaded a broad refurbishment that extends to all 332 rooms and includes 37 new residences with a central courtyard and what is claimed to be the largest infinity pool in Cannes framed by cabanas and sunbathing decks.

From reports, it seems that the refurbishment has focused on smaller details while still keeping the overarching character of the hotel intact. There are more nooks and crannies for privacy across the property, as well as new restaurants and public spaces such as a light-filled lounge contrasting modern furnishings with the Art-Deco interiors.

It seems leaning closer towards lifestyle changes was a big part of the restoration project. You’ll now find a pétanque court with a massive rosé menu, and a new deck at the Carlton Beach Club perfectly designed for sunset cocktails.

A night at Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel will set you back around US$1,285 (AU$1,923) per night.
