Who better to present a series about history’s greatest heists than Pierce Brosnan (AKA Mr Thomas Crown Affair himself)?

According to Collider, the upcoming series – simply titled History’s Greatest Heists with Pierce Brosnan – will showcase the “most unbelievable and elaborate” jobs to have ever achieved mission success. Jobs that’ll make Ocean’s 11 look as pedestrian and mundane as a Nigerian prince email scam in 2022. Through the use of “cinematic recreations and state-of-the-art VFX”, each hour-long episode examines every possible angle in painstaking detail, from the “mark” to the plan, and execution to fallout.

So far, only two heists have been announced for season 1: the Wilcox train robbery of 1899 and Boston’s Great Brink robbery of 1950. Although technically unsolved, the Wilcox train robbery has been widely credited to Butch Cassidy & The Wild Bunch (yes, that Butch Cassidy famously portrayed by Paul Newman). In classic fashion, a crew boarded a Pacific Union train just outside of Wilcox Wyoming to steal approximately $36,000 – the equivalent to a million bucks when adjusted for inflation. Boston’s Great Brink robbery, on the other hand, was hailed “crime of the century” due to the fact its thieves escaped from the Brink private security firm’s headquarters with almost $30 million in today’s currency.

“Great heist stories are thrilling, and when well told, have the ability to bring the viewer along as almost a co-conspirator to the crime itself,” the retired 007 expressed via statement.

“I look forward to travelling back in time to break down the astonishing history behind these true-life heists from the analysis of the masterminds themselves to the elaborate schemes that have transcended time.”

“As long as there’s been currency, people have hatched schemes to try to take it for themselves,” adds History Channel’s Executive Vice President & Head of Programming Eli Lehrer.

“From the earliest horse-back train robbery of the wild west to today’s intricate capers, heists across history have become legends and who better to take viewers through this exciting, high stakes journey than Pierce.”

History’s Greatest Heists with Pierce Brosnan has been co-produced for The History Channel by Big Fish Entertainment and Anchor Entertainment. Dan Cesareo, Lucilla D’Agostino, and Jordana Starr have signed on as executive producers on behalf of Big Fish Entertainment, Ethan Goldman on behalf of Anchor Entertainment, with Mary E. Donahue and Jennifer Wagman for The History Channel itself.

Stay tuned for a release date and domestic streaming platform (our bet’s on Binge).
