This $26 Bottle Of South Australian Chardonnay Has Been Crowned The World’s Best

Taylors Wines’ 2022 Jaraman Adelaide Hills and Clare Valley Chardonnay – which retails for an extremely affordable $26 – has taken home a gold medal at this year’s MUNDUS VINI Grand International Wine Award.

Across the entire six-day run of the prestigious German wine show‘s 32nd iteration, a grand total of 7,500 drops were tasted + tested by a panel of 240 expert tasters, makers, as well as retailers hailing from 46 nations. And clearly, the homegrown representative dazzled an overwhelming majority.

“We are honoured to fly the flag for South Australia at this year’s MUNDUS VINI International Wine Awards. Mundus Vini is an intense competition… so the calibre of judging is incredibly high,” said Mitchell Taylor, third-generation winemaker and managing director of Taylors Wines.

“Our Jaraman Chardonnay is an exceptional value wine, showcasing the best of the Adelaide Hills and Clare Valley wine regions in the finished blend.”

Of course, the humble, family-owned and operated winery from South Australia isn’t exactly a stranger to having its bottled delights crowned the world’s best.

Last year, its 2020 Estate Shiraz – which retails for an even more affordable $22 – was named overall international champion at the VINUS International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Micthell Taylor stated at the time: “We’re particularly excited that our Estate Shiraz – a wine we’ve produced since our very first vintage in the early 70s – was recognised as the wine of show against entrants from all over the world.”

“This award is a testament to our winemaking team and their ability to produce a wine that’s been loved worldwide for more than 50 years.”
