In recognition of its other claim to fame as a local mecca for homegrown brewers, Uber Eats is calling upon you — the people — to do your civic duty and sign a petition to rename our nation’s capital: CanBEERa.

Across this glorious sunburnt country of ours, the craft beer industry has reportedly been growing by an average of 9.7% year on year; and despite its relatively small size, the ACT has consistently punched well above its weight with nine of Australia’s Top 100 craft beers originating from the state in 2022.

“When we discovered the incredible concentration of locally grown brewers in the capital, we thought: what better way to help promote their craft nationally than by petitioning to rename the nation’s capital in their honour?” said Lucas Groeneveld. Regional General Manager of Retail at Uber Eats ANZ.

“Goulburn might have the Big Merino and Coffs the Big Banana, but nobody has ever had a town named after their most popular export. Why can’t CanBEERa be the first?”

This campaign has been launched as Uber Eats’ alcohol delivery service rolls out in Canberra/CanBEERa, allowing Canberrans/CanBEERans to enjoy the very same privileges as the rest of the east coast cities.

Uber Eats is hoping to deliver enough signatures to officially present the matter to Parliament by National Beer Day (Friday, August 4th) – ensure you’re on the right side of history and get amongst it once the paperwork is officially lodged.

And to celebrate the petition, they’re also offering 30% off select beer items at certain stores within ACT, Queensland, Victoria, as well as New South Wales; which you can get amongst right now via the link below.
