It turns out the dessert lords over at Gelato Messina were testing the waters when they teamed up with Peters Ice Cream for a limited edition series of drumsticks last year. Now, they’ve got something a bit more permanent onto supermarket shelves across Australia, leveraging the partnership between the two brands to introduce a three-flavour Messina Gelato Bars collection.

With Australia steaming head-first into spring weather, the timing is right for these bars to hit Coles, Woolworths and a few independent supermarkets across the country. These gelato bars will come in three flavours, but we’re sure the demand for more will see the range swell in due time.

All the gelato bars use Messina-made ingredients and are appropriately decadent to represent a huge leap from the usual mass-produced blocks that crowd the freezer aisle. See below for the full breakdown of each flavour.

  • Choc Hazelnut Gelato Bar – cocoa gelato, layered with chocolate biscuit and Messina-made hazelnut sauce, enrobed in hazelnut choc.
  • Espresso Dulce De Leche Gelato Bar – espresso gelato, biscuit and gooey Messina-made Dulce de Leche centre, enrobed in a milk choc.
  • Strawberry Cheesecake Gelato Bar – lemon-infused gelato, biscuit and strawberry sauce, enrobed in pink choc.

Given queues at Messina stores have been known to snake around a few blocks at their many Australian locations, it might be a good idea to forego any physical effort and order these bars via Couchfood instead. Either way, you’re looking at $10 for a four-pack, which really isn’t that much of a bump up from your standard ice-creams anyway.
