It’s fair to say the common denominator across most eight-figure properties is their size. What is often missing, however, are any sort of unique features that set them apart from the rest of the mansions on the market. At 35 Morgan Street, Ascot, its current owners have gone to impressive lengths to be the only house of its kind, not just boasting all of the luxury trimmings you’d expect, but to have one of the best basement bars we’ve ever seen.

Centrally located between the airport and CBD, this Ascot property spans an incredible six levels with million-dollar views and a total of 1,409m² of under-roof space. All counted, it features six bedrooms, six bathrooms and a further seven underground car spaces that can be accessed via a Batman-worthy subterranean tunnel.

The main residential levels of the home contain several large living spaces, which open directly onto balconies that deliver uninterrupted 180-degree views from the mountains across to the Brisbane River and the CBD. As you’d expect, the stunning kitchen has been complimented by appliances from Gaggenau, Liebherr and Miele, while you’ll be able to enjoy your family meals in the dining room, or one of the several al fresco dining spaces.

The main event, however, is the so-called “Bear Cave” downstairs, which is hidden behind a concealed door that can only be opened by pushing a button hidden within a bust of Shakespeare. If this specific opening mechanism reminds you of the entrance to Bruce Wayne’s Batcave from the 1966 TV series, that’s because it served as direct inspiration for the Ascot property.

On the other side of the concealed door is an unfolding speakeasy, currently filled with racing simulators, a large pool table, a fully stocked cocktail bar and a lounge space with a dozen smart TVs to watch your favourite sporting code. Integrated into the underground cavern is a soundproof recording studio, perfect for those with a musical inclination.

If one of Australia’s most impressive underground dens wasn’t enough, 35 Morgan Street, Ascot also has a gym that’s so big it looks like it belongs to a fitness club, a wine cellar with a capacity for more than 700 bottles and a home cinema. If you need to get outside for some fresh air, the compound also has two separate swimming pools, next to the outdoor deck areas that are perfect for enjoying the Queensland sun.

This truly is an unusual property, not just for its scale and grandeur, but for the level of enthusiastic creativity that went into the underground bar-come-gaming room. Having recently come onto the market, 35 Morgan Street, Ascot is set to go under the hammer on September 17th. While the agent wasn’t able to offer a specific price guide, comparable homes have sold around the $12 million mark recently.
