There’s nothing quite as mood-ruining as a rainy winter in Australia, so if you’re looking for a way to dodge the cold and dreary in the future the Fitzroy Island Resort has been listed for sale for a cool $35 million. Located on one of the largest tropical islands off the coast of Queensland that spans 339 hectares, the resort enjoys 4.4 hectares of pristine rainforest and is one of the most significant in the area with more than 100 guest rooms.

Currently owned by property developer Doug Gamble, it’s the third time he’s listed the Fitzroy Island Resort for sale in the last decade, but where the sale hasn’t gone ahead in the past, the appetite for Great Barrier Reef islands has grown following the purchase of Dunk Island by Mike Cannon-Brookes and his wife Annie. Just 45 minutes ferry ride from Cairnes, Fitzroy Island is in a prime location for anyone looking to capitalise on the region’s natural beauty.

While the majority of the island is a national park, the proximity of Fitzroy Island Resort to the mainland makes it significantly easier to service from an operational perspective, as well as being an easier sell to holiday-makers seeking remoteness without the trip time. It’s currently listed by Colliers who are seeking expressions of interest on behalf of the Gamble family with a price guide of $35 million.
