The dramatic Malibu mansion of professional thief Neil McCauley (portrayed by Robert De Niro) in Michael Mann’s Heat has been the object of desire for many ever since the classic crime drama first screened. And now, it’s up for grabs.

The four-bedroom dream property built in 1982 by famed architect Ron Goldman was recently listed for US$21 million (AU$32 million) as the current owner looks to offload this iconic oceanfront pad located at 26940 Malibu Cove Colony Drive.

Bright, open, and airy with natural light pouring in from every direction is key to the home’s distinctly Californian design language. Across its two floors, as some of you may recall, the Malibu mansion from Heat seamlessly blends the indoors with the outdoors thanks to its masterful use of walkways, dissolving walls, and general principles of geometry.

As previously mentioned, the design is extremely open, featuring numerous skylights and large windows next to entire walls of glass to channel the majesty of the Pacific Ocean.

The master bedroom of this mid-century modern abode (where the magic happens) is flanked by a private terrace overlooking the ocean; in addition to presenting a sitting area with a sizable fireplace and a nearby built-in desk, providing the new owner with the world’s most enviable WFH set-up.

A living room and dining room sit to the left of the entry foyer with a fireplace and another expansive balcony overlooking the ocean. The well-equipped chef’s kitchen, which includes professional-grade appliances, sits adjacent while the upper level is accessible via a central floating staircase. As for the second floor, that’s where you’ll find all four bedrooms, including the aforementioned primary suite and another with its own outdoor patio.

Recently, a refurbishment has also welcomed a solar power system and Tesla chargers to the home in an attempt to future-proof the new owner’s lifestyle.

The only thing missing from this mansion is a dedicated entertainment and exercise space. Although the two-car garage is generous enough to double as a gym.

Bonus: for whatever reason living in the house from Heat forces you to look over your shoulder, you’ll be relieved to hear there’s 24/7 security with guards provided as part of the Malibu Cove Colony
