With less than a month to go before the commencement of the Australian Open, Louis Vuitton has just revealed it’s the “official trophy trunk partner” of the globally renowned Grand Slam tennis event.

For this momentous occasion — set to draw hundreds of thousands of international visitors to Melbourne Park for an unprecedented 15-day period — Louis Vuitton has crafted two bespoke cases: one for each of the men’s and women’s singles trophies respectively.

Handmade by Louis Vuitton leatherworkers in the Maison’s historic workshop at Asnières, these trunks are the latest in a storied line of trophy cases the brand has crafted for multiple sporting marquees including the Grand Prix de Monaco and Rugby World Cup.

The Maison’s traditional livery — consisting of a combination of the LV monogram, petaled flower, and four-point star — is depicted in leather all over both trophy trunks; and, in line with Louis Vuitton baggage of the early 20th century, secured over a wooden frame that is constructed with Iozne leather and metal corner hardware.

Creative input from Tennis Australia also resulted in the use of a blue microfibre material for each trunk’s internal housing (alluding explicitly to the Australian Open’s iconic blue courts) and ‘AO’ badging.

“Louis Vuitton is renowned for creating iconic trunks,” says Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia. “And we are delighted with these stunning hand-crafted custom trunks created for our historic Australian Open trophies.”

Fashion-savvy attendees can catch a glimpse of these trunks in Melbourne Park on January 27th and 28th: ahead of the final matches in the women’s and men’s singles events.
